Castle Howard trip 12th December

A total of 3 of us met up (thank to Bob & Noel for keeping me company) in the Castle Howard car park at 8am this morning. A walk down to the entrance of the Arboretum failed to produce a hoped for Hawfinch. Next was the Great Lake where we had:

  • 7 Goldeneye
  • 14 Mandarin
  • 6 Goosander (4 male)
  • 3 Little Grebe

Then a walk around the back of Castle Howard to check Ray Wood and then over the bridge of the New River Pond where another pair of Goosander flew over.

On towards Welburn and Pretty Wood. A flock of 20 Skylark in the field at Welburn. In Pretty Wood there were a couple of Brambling in with a flock of Chaffinch.
