Wheldrake work party

On Saturday 13th August, Craig Ralston organised a work party at Wheldrake Ings aimed at club members. It was an enjoyable and rewarding day’s hard work. Here’s a summary in Craig’s words:

“Just a quick one to say thanks to all the club members and others who came along today to help with the scrub removal task at Wheldrake Ings – 10 of us made a real impact over the course of the day, clearing about half a hectare of fairly dense willow scrub out of the reedbed in front of Swantail (and getting it all burnt!). Not only will this improve the open feel to the site but will help improve views, encourage the reedbed to expand and push crows and their vantage points back from the centre of the site. So it does really help improve the site for all its wildlife, for us and visitors more widely and really helps YWT get back on top of some of the management at the site.

So a big thank you from me and the rest of the LDV NNR team, YWT who have asked me to pass on their thanks, and for all the wildlife and visitors who will benefit – thank you!

I’ll probably try and organise another one next month for anyone who wishes to return for another go or for those who wanted to come but couldn’t make it

Cheers

Craig
