Askham Bog Trip 7th July

23 members plus myself gathered at Askham Bog yesterday evening in glorious weather. Two were very new members on their first YOC Club trip, which was great to have them.

We didn’t expect to see many birds – and we didn’t. Rob kept a list which came to about twelve species (mainly heard). But we botanised, discussed the Ice-age origin of the bog, its subsequent history and its current management and problems, worshipped the ancient Royal ferns, and generally chatted. I personally really enjoyed it, and I think everybody else did as well.

We don’t have to be chasing birds to enjoy (and share) being ‘out in nature’!
