Sanderling, Calidris alba
Local status: Rare passage migrant
Most records of this coastal wader appear on spring migration when poor weather causes birds crossing overland to pause in our area. Occasionally, small flocks have occurred and some birds have appeared in late winter, with three records in autumn. The majority of sightings have been from the Lower Derwent Valley.
