Hooded Crow, Corvus cornix
Local status: Rare passage migrant and winter visitor
Formerly a winter visitor in small numbers to England, this species is now much rarer to the south of its range, owing to a seemingly changed migration pattern. Small numbers are seen mainly on spring migration along the east coast, but sightings are now very rare in the York area. The large number of unsubstantiated records are due to them not appearing in the relevant YNU report. It is likely that many of these records were correct, just never submitted
