Wood Warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix

Rare passage migrant

There has been a significant national decline, with a 65% reduction in numbers between 1995 and 2010 (BBS 2011). There were no records in 1998 and 1999 and there have been seven blank years between 2000 and 2022. There have been no confirmed breeding records in the 21st century, though a male was singing at Yearsley from 22nd April to 13th June 2018
Autumn migrants are distinctly scarce; there were just three records from 2000 to 2022 and the latest date was one singing at Wheldrake Ings on 3rd September 2015.
