Strensall Trip – change of meeting place
Just a reminder of this week’s evening visit on Wednesday 27th at 7pm to Strensall Common, which is still ‘on’. However, due to military use of the southern part we were due to visit, we will have to visit the northern area instead, meeting at Galtres Car Park, further towards Flaxton, at GR SE 648 612. (This is not the one in the printed programme). Full directions are:
From York Northern by-pass, A1237, take the road to Earswick and Strensall, past the cross roads to Haxby/Malton and past the camp on the right. At the Rix garage go straight on, passing the Six Bells pub on your left and along Ox Carr Lane. After the Common starts on the right, carry on towards Flaxton along a long straight road, passing the Golf Clubhouse on the left, golf course on the right. Immediately after the first cattle grid, opposite ‘Moorside’ Caravan Park, turn right and into the parking area at SE 648 612.
We can hope to see and hear most of the birds aimed for in the original area, except for the Black-headed Gull colony (impressive about 120 birds last night), plus maybe one or two ‘extras’.
Wellies or good boots suggested – its quite wet at the moment.
