November Outing
8 Members defied the forecast on Sunday. With nothing outstanding reported from the coast on Saturday there was no obvious preferred site but with heavy rains and strong winds from midday it was agreed to go to Saltholme because of the hides available and do North Gare area before the rains. Some 54 species were seen with most small birds hiding. At North Gare highlights were some 18 Snow Bunting, Sparrowhawk, Merganser, Gannet, Twite, Linnet, Turnstone, Stonechat and Bar-tailed Godwit. Rain started by 11.00am with increasing strong winds but the rain was not as promised. At Saltholme were Red headed Smew, Goldeneye, Whooper Swans, many Geese including Barnacle, and one Pinkfoot, Black-tailed Godwit, Golden Plover, Lapwing, Wigeon, Teal, Pochard, Ruff & Little Egret. Another attempt for SE Owl was made on North Gare road but the wind was very strong and light faded. The very heavy rain promised did then arrive to make a challenge of the drive back.
