Lesser Yellowlegs, Tringa flavipes

Local status: Very rare vagrant

This elegant American wader has occurred once in our area, at Wheldrake Ings. The bird was discovered early morning in the company of Redshanks, Tringa totanus. It was seen from the Pool Hide by a number of birders before it departed southeast early evening. What was presumably the same bird was relocated at Paull Holme Strays in East Yorkshire on 24th July. This was the twelfth record for Yorkshire.

Records:
2020: Wheldrake Ings, which relocated to Bank Island, 1st to 3rd October 2020 (one).
