Kentish Plover, Charadrius alexandrinus

Local status: Very rare passage migrant

This diminutive plover has become increasingly scarce in recent years in the UK, reducing the likelihood of further records in the York area. The 1986 record and the 2005 claim were both in the company of Ringed Plovers, Charadrius hiaticula, and so it is worth checking flocks of this species carefully when they occur on spring migration.

Records:
1987: Riccall, 4th June. Female.
1986: Aughton, 6th to 7th May. Female.
1981: North Duffield Carrs, 22nd May. Female.

Unsubstantiated records:
2005: North Duffield Carrs, 3rd May. Male. No description submitted
