June Field Trip to SE77
Sunday was the last outing before the Summer and 14 members went to SE77 ( The North East section of the Club recording area) This area is in part under recorded although to the South it contains Castle Howard Lake and an area of the Hambleton Hills. North of this is a flat area of farmland and several small rivers including the Rye and Severn. The forecast promised rain but we were lucky with no proper rain till 5.00pm. We went to Castle Howard Lake ,Hildenley Wood, walked along the Rye west of Butterwick and finally from West Ness east towards Salton and back. Some 60 species were seen and main birds were Barn Owl hunting at noon, Grey Wagtail, Cuckoo, Spotted Flycatcher , Siskin, and good views of Garden, Reed and Sedge Warblers The final highlight was a Hobby watched hunting around the tops of 2 large tree for at least 15 minutes.
